Joy is a deep, boundless well of peace, contentment, and connection that is always accessible. We don't chase or find it; we choose to reconnect with it.
Though often used interchangeably, joy and happiness stem from different sources within us. Happiness is often fleeting and tied to external circumstances. Joy, on the other hand, is a deeper, more enduring state — a connection to an inner flame that burns brightly within us.
This exercise invites you to pause, reflect, and explore your inner landscape to rediscover the joy always present within you.
Begin by finding a quiet, comfortable place where you will not be disturbed. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and allow your body to relax. Set an intention: "I am reconnecting with my inner joy."
Consider the distractions and demands that pull you away from this stillness. What daily routines, stressors, or patterns draw your attention outward, away from your inner self?
Think of moments when you have felt a brief, subtle spark of joy — fully present, content, or connected. List three to five of these moments.
What activities, environments, or people bring you closer to this sense of joy? Write down three ways to intentionally create space for these moments in your daily routine.
Joy lives in the present moment, not the past or future. Spend five to ten minutes focusing on your breath — "I am here" ... "I am present."
Consider the beliefs, thoughts, or attitudes that might block your awareness of joy. Are there any narratives you hold about needing to "earn" joy, or that it's fleeting?
Visualize yourself gently peeling away each belief, distraction, or worry — like a heavy cloak. With each breath, release one and feel yourself becoming lighter.
Joy is like a muscle — the more you connect with it, the stronger it becomes. One tool: hand on heart, deep breaths, focusing on gratitude.
